Swisslog, a major automated materials handling systems provider, recruited Saker Solutions to assist with the planning of a brand new £30m warehouse facility at a port in the south-east of England to supply to the
newspaper industry.

Saker Solutions modelled the complex interactions between all of the materials handling, conveying, warehouse and loading and unloading operations of the paper reels. The system enabled the client to test the most efficient design of the facility under a range of variable supply and demand pressures, through fine-tuning of the design in a risk-free simulation environment. The use of simulation in the facility's design resulted in a fully-validated, quantifiable, optimised facility that would ultimately ensure the timely dispatch of paper reels in response to short terms demands, and successful operation of the warehouse.
